The International Make-Up Artist Trade Show (IMATS) will be returning in 2011 to Australia for its third consecutive year. Polkadot PR has represented IMATS since its first show.

Flipsters
Flipsters the brainchild of two young Sydney entrepreneurs who enlisted Polkadot PR to launch their innovative product to Australian media. Flipsters is a collapsible pair of thongs that fold into a tiny pouch, the size of an iPhone, for women to keep in their handbag and ‘save their soles’ from a night on the town or the work commute, or to get them home from the pedicure salon with painted nails intact. Flipsters are also the perfect, iconic Aussie accessory to hit the beach with.
Polkadot PR developed and executed a strategic PR campaign to tap into a range of media, from fashion and beauty to travel and lifestyle, at key timing points for the brand throughout the campaign period. The PR program kicked off with a targeted and innovative media send-out, with tailored product pitching, brand building and personality profiling that highlighted the genius of having two young men develop the ultimate product for women.
Media coverage results included in a full-page and front-page lead in the Daily Telegraph and a feature story on ‘A Current Affair’, to name just a two. Launched as an unknown online retailer, Flipsters now has stockists all over Australia and internationally, with an extended product range of colours and extensions. The PR campaign generated in excess of 130 media clippings.
How we joined the dots...
We sent a creative Flipsters launch mailer to key media that included product from nail-varnish partner Essie, and a press release folded by an origami expert into a quirky stiletto shoe.
Tailored pitching to highlight the many uses for the product: to travel and in-flight press, stressing its use as the ultimate travel companion for your hand luggage; and to women’s magazines like Cosmo and CLEO, we promoted it as the handbag-essential for a night on the town.
We commissioned a seasonal survey to investigate the festive partying and spending habits of Australia’s females – or ‘Festive Fashionistas’ as Polkadot PR coined them, over Christmas and New Year. We used these survey results in our media pitches, linking back to Flipsters, the product that offers the ‘essential festive saviour for all women’.
